F30 Operator's Reminding List

This is a suggested list for setting up the TF30 microscope running FEI software Tecnai v2.1.8 and with Gatan's DigitalMicrograph v1.4.4. It is assumed that user is familiar with the software interfaces of FEI Tecnai and Gatan DigitalMicrograph.

Keep the Column Valves closed all the time except when working with the beam.

1. Get ready

  1. Check log book to see if there has been any problems.

  2. Login to Win2k computer.

  3. Start Tecnai User Interface.

  4. Check vacuum from "Vacuum" and Vacuum Overview". The important places to pay attention to are:

    1. Column valves (v7, v4) are closed.

    2. IGP3(Gun) = 1

    3. IGP1(Column) < 20

    4. P3(Camera) < 70 (If P3=1, keep the column valves closed and call Chen immidiately)

  5. Check if both "High Tension" and FEG "Operate" are on (in yellow), talk to Chen if not.

  6. Load your operation setting from FEG Register.

  7. Set high tension to the value that you're going to use if needed. When switching from low to high, use "free high tension" function (inside High Tension module) to step up slowly.
